When Katy Perry showed up to the Golden Globes this year with a bouffant hairstyle (which, she revealed to Jennifer Lawrence on the red carpet, was an “as-seen-on-TV Bump-It”), it felt glamorously chic, like a young Priscilla Presley, as opposed to more recent incarnations (Snooki, anyone?).

And while we’re all in favor of the loose, tousled waves that have been taking over the red carpet and runways alike, there was something decidedly alluring about seeing Katy with uber-voluminous hair that made us want to order our own Bump-It to pair with a figure-hugging dress and some winged liner.

Katy, however, is just one in a long history of winsome bombshells who have long been making the case for back combing and teasing your hair into glorious volume. Here are 13 women, from Brigitte Bardot to Adele, from both the past and present who convincingly make a case for bringing back big hair.
