We cannot tell a lie: we’re obsessed with Kate Middleton’s hair. Long, perfectly bouncy, unbelievably shiny and the most amazing shade of I’ve been spending a lot of time outdoors highlighted chestnut—it’s been our follicular Constant for years now. And though—like us—she’s embraced bangs off and on, she hasn’t exactly made any major stylistic changes since first stepping into the public eye. Why mess with perfection, right?
Well. Hold onto your butts, because Kate the Great has made a major cut—and we are in love with it. The Duchess of Cambridge attended the ICAP charity day in London with MUCH shorter hair.
Okay, so it’s not exactly a pixie, but this collarbone-grazing cut is a good four inches shorter than anything we’ve seen her wear before. The long layers allow her to still wear it in her favorite amazing-blowout-with-curled-ends style, but in a way that is much more modern. This medium length also blends much better with her bangs, allowing her to sweep them to the side and showcase them as a fringe, or part them and wear them as cheekbone-skimming layers (which is what she did here).
Oh, you’d like to see this cut from the side so you have something to take to your stylist? Your wish is our command!
Isn’t this gorgeous? We love the way she’s really embraced the almost-totally-blunt cut, rather than just a slightly shorter version of her signature many-layered style. And who knows what this cut could portend? In another three months, we might be seeing Kate out and about with an Emma Stone-esque lob!
And to answer the question we know you’ve been asking, yes: her hair still looks amazing in motion. This woman is made of magic.
