Summer may bring us casual makeup-free days, but it doesn't give our hair any slack. In fact, we'd welcome winter static over summer frizz any day. Just a touch of humidity turns our hours of heat styling into a ball of frizz. Yet, with the right pre-styling products, the hair fuzzies can be prevented. And on the worst of days, camouflaging hairstyles are simple and chic. Follow our easy guide below for gorgeous summer hair even Gisele would approve.

Apply a Coat of Armor
Product is key to preventing frizz, says Rita Hazan Stylist Cristina B. "I would start with a leave-in conditioner that controls frizz, like Red E To Go ($24.95, Then use a smoothing cream on top, like Oribe Supershine Moisturizing Cream ($49," Both create an outer shield to prevent strands from expanding when exposed to extra moisture. Humidity is, of course, extra moisture held in the air. The more hydrated the hair before exposure, the less susceptible it is to frizz. Then style the hair up or down as you normally would.

Go Sleek
When frizz hits during the day, tame the effects with a sleek style. "Try braiding your hairline and slicking your hair back into a chic ponytail, or try a top knot," says Cristina. The tighter the style, the harder it is for humidity to grab onto holes in the hair follicle. And the cleaner the hair, the less likely the hair will remain sleek—wash every two days at the max.

Go Straight
Start by straightening hair smooth with a temperature-controlled flat-iron, such as the ghd eclipse ($245, At 365 degrees, the hair is straightened in one pass without the addition of unnecessary, damaging heat that causes frizz. Add a touch of pomade to the sides to keep hair in place. Cristina B. recommends keeping a travel size serum handy, such as Oribe Gold Lust Nourishing Hair Oil ($48, Apply to the ends and hairline, where frizz is most common.

Make Texture Intentional
If hiding frizz isn't possible, embrace it by playing up messy texture—after all, beach waves are in season. Structure messiness slightly with texturing spray, such as Bumble and Bumble Thickening Dryspun Finish ($29,

Throw It Up
Create more control with a messy updo, like a twisted textured ponytail or fussed up bun.

Plait It
Braid into a textured French braid or loose fishtail. Any new flyways throughout the day will appear intentional.
