Since the beginning of time, perfume has remained one of women’s greatest indulgences—the first alcohol-based formula dates all the way back to 1371 and was created for the Queen of Hungary!—but we’ve come a long, long way since then, and scents come in more forms that we can count, from oil-based rollerballs to solid balms.
However, no matter how long-lasting I think my perfume is, during the cooler months, I’ve noticed that my fragrance is fading faster than ever (as in, it lasts only an hour). I chalk it up to strong radiators and lack of humidity in the air, but I’m still devoted to the idea of wearing a signature scent every day, so when I came across the idea of hair perfume online late one night I decided I give them a try. Plus, the fact that many are oil-based means they’ll both cling to my strands and work to add moisture, too.
One of my favorite discoveries: Sachajuan Protective Hair Perfume. It’s a strong scent, but it’s applied with a mist, so I can control how much I use, and the formula absolutely makes my hair feel softer. I’m also newly obsessed with Byredo’s range of hair perfumes, which come in several of their signature aromas such as Gypsy Water and Bal d’Afrique–two scents I already use in eau de parfum form.
