Some of the most iconic moments in pop culture have taken place at the Grammy Awards—after all, has there ever been anything that’s gotten stuck in public memory quite like the infamous Kanye x T. Swift encounter? Unlikely.

Just as iconic as the inevitable antics are the countless unforgettable hair and makeup looks that have been trotted down that red carpet over the past 58 years. This year is looking pretty tame in comparison, which just goes to show how much our pop stars have changed. Where’s Miley Cyrus when you need her? Oh, wait, Lady Gaga‘s here. Everybody can calm down now.

It may be Adele’s first appearance on the Grammys red carpet since way back in 2013, but her signature cat eye hasn’t budged. Her long, choppy bob, on the other hand, is a total deviation for the usually perfectly coiffed star—and it looks so, so good.

Bella Hadid, who arrived on the arm of boyfriend The Weeknd, looked characteristically sleek, with dewy, seemingly poreless skin and a soft violet smoky eye.

Ciara brought back the ’90s with her long, face-framing tendrils and simple smoked-out eye makeup.

Demi Lovato went pretty low-key (emphasis on pretty) with lustrous-looking waves and a touch of mascara.

One of our favorite looks of the night, Ellie Goulding wore her bright blonde hair side-swept and tousled with a pinkish lip color and flushed cheeks.

What could one possibly say about Florence Welch’s red carpet looks that would take precedence over that gorgeous red hair?

Parisian scenester—and wife of Mark RonsonJoseph de la Baume wore a bold red lip, slick cat eye, and braided bun combo that we’ll most definitely be keeping in mind for special occasions (namely, those that involve a lot of dancing).

Kaley Cuoco’s medium brown-to-platinum ombré is pretty much perfect.

Selena Gomez chose a total high-drama Hollywood look, complete with major smoky eyes and voluptuous wavy hair.

Taylor Swift and Anna Wintour: officially #hairtwins.

Tove Lo changed tonight’s conservative Grammys game with a tight ponytail, metallic red eye makeup, and a statement septum piercing.

All hail Zendaya, queen of the red carpet fashion mullet.

Lady Gaga is pure, unadulterated Bowie-inspired insanity. Well done.
