As beauty buffs who enjoy cosmetics in all forms—from traditional to completely off-kilter—we were intrigued when liquid lipsticks started appearing on our desks. Claiming to have the same matte finish and long-lasting wear as tubbed lip color, they were put to the test by us editors, as well as a few of our makeup enthused friends. Over the course of the week we tried five different brands of what we now know to be very good liquid lipsticks. Here are the details of our delightful and very pretty findings.
Revlon ColorStay Ultimate Liquid Lipstick ($9, drugstore.com)
This formula went on like satin and the color stayed put all day. After hours of wear it started to feel a tad bit chalky, but that wasn’t anything a touch of lip balm couldn’t fix, and for the price, it’s a a steal.
NYX Liquid Suede Cream Cosmetics ($7, nyxcosmetics.com)
A waterproof formula with a vibrant, matte finish, this was one of our favorites. It lived up to it’s name in both feel (it’s supremely soft) and longevity.
Tarte Tartiest Creamy Matte Lip Paint ($20, tartecosmetics.com)
While Tarte’s liquid lipstick faded faster than the other brands we tested, there was still much to love about it, particularly how light it felt while still delivering highly-pigmented color. It also boasts a vegan formula.
Stay All Day Liquid Lipstick ($24, stilacosmetics.com)
Apply this on in the morning and your color will still be in place come time for happy hour. We loved the velvety feel of this one and the color was extremely rich.
Anastasia Beverly Hills Liquid Lipstick ($20, anastasiabeverlyhills.com)
We admit to doubting that a company known for brow products could deliver a great lipstick, but we stand corrected. The Anastasia Beverly Hills formula was easily our favorite. Our morning application lasted the entire day and the color wasn’t at all drying. It also garnered lots of compliments, which is always nice.
