Two NYE Glitter Manicures You’ll Be Obsessed With

New Year’s Eve is one of our favorite times of year; not only is there more champagne than we could possibly drink (though we’ll try), it’s the one time of year when glitter is positively mandatory. And what better way to take advantage of seasonal sparkle than with seriously sparkly nails? Superstar manicurist Jin Soon Choi created two sophisticated (yet sparkly) NYE glitter manicure tutorials so that you can ring in 2016 in superlative style—here’s how you can get the look.

Look one: The Glitter Gradient.

Step 1: Remove any existing polish and shape your nails. Apply a base coat—don’t skip this step, as it prevents staining and adds strength to your nails!
Step 2: Apply two coats of JINsoon Nail Lacquer in Opulence ($18, Sephora), a warm-toned, metallic red. Allow each coat to dry completely before adding the next—remember, nails are totally dry when you can touch them to your lips without the polish feeling cold, sticky or wet—as this will help extend the lifespan of your manicure.
Step 3: Next, Jin says to “dab” JINsoon Nail Lacquer in Glace ($18, Sephora), a combination of pale gold, silver and royal blue glitter right above the cuticle, fading it gently up towards the free edge for a gradient effect. If you get polish on your skin, clean it off with an orange stick, or let it dry completely, then soak your hands in warm water until the polish flakes away.
Step 4: Let everything dry, then set with a brilliant top coat to add shine and protect your mani. Get out there and ring in the new year with style!

Look two: The Sparkle Motion.

Step 1: As before, remove all existing polish, shape your nails and apply a base coat. Jin created her signature Power Coat ($18, Jin Soon) to really protect and strengthen nails; it’s a fantastic choice if you’re prone to splitting, peeling or breaking.
Step 2: Apply two coats of JINsoon Nail Lacquer in Heirloom ($18, Sephora), a truly beautiful deep, shiny green. We find that heirloom dries especially quickly, but again, do make sure that each coat is fully dry before applying the next.
Step 3: Apply one to two coats of JINsoon’s Fete ($18, Sephora), a really fun combination of long pink glitter, square black sequins and small holographic silver particles, overtop. We love the contrast of the bold colors and unexpected shapes overtop the dark green!
Step 4: Seal everything with two layers of top coat to smooth over the glitter. Toast to 2016 with major style!
