Here in New York, we have been suffering from steaming hot days, making us dread even the thought of taking out the straightener or curling iron. So we’ve decided to play with some updos this week, starting with Rose Byrne’s high volume bun that she wore at the Damages premiere last week. Let’s enjoy the fact that the heat is inspiring us to do something other than eating ice cream on the couch with Friends reruns.

10 Summer Hairstyles To Beat The Heat

Step 1: John Frieda International Creative Consultant Harry Josh started by applying John Frieda Frizz-Ease Serum Original Formula ($7, to soaking wet hair to fight frizz. And with heat like this, we are gonna need it!

Step 2: To get that sleek, shiny finish, Harry started blowing out Rose’s hair in sections with a round, boar-bristle brush. We love Chi Ceramic Round Boar Brush ($11.99,

Step 3: After finishing with the blowout, he applied John Frieda Frizz-Ease Secret Weapon Flawless Finishing Créme ($5.99, to smooth any imperfections and leave hair looking soft and shiny.

Step 4: To add a more casual feel to the updo, he left her side swept bangs out, as well as a few strands on the other side to even it out. He pulled her hair back into a ponytail in the center of her head and teased at the crown for volume.

Step 5: He then twisted her ponytail into a chignon and secured with bobby pins. The key with a chignon is to separate the hair in two, create one loop, pin in place and then repeat. It’s a quick alternative to any updo and a nice change from the ballerina bun.

Are you opting for a quick updo in this heat?
