So this is how they keep their hair healthy, despite the constant coloring.

More than anyone, celebrities put stress on their hair thanks to constant coloring and heat styling for photo ops. Celebrity stylist Mark Townsend has found the perfect fix for his A-list clientele that includes the likes of Lea Michele and Jennifer Lawrence: A DIY hair mask that anyone can make.

In an interview with, Townsend spoke of the all-natural treatment he first concocted for Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen:

“I recently made up a conditioner for the girls … and told them to put it in their hair before swimming and while in the sun. It was coconut oil, almond oil, jojoba oil, and vitamin E—all things I picked up at the health food store! When they got back [from vacation], they both asked me for more and I could feel a huge difference in their hair.”

Sure, the Olsens used it in hot weather, but this is equally effective for battling the dryness that always hits hair when cold weather sets in. While Townsend wouldn’t disclose the exact recipe, which he says is exclusively for his clients, we suggest trying one tablespoon of coconut oil and half a teaspoon of the other ingredients. Mix it together and apply it to damp hair. As for how long you should keep the mask on, Townsend advises using it a couple times a week and leaving it in for up to an hour.
