Facial sprays are basically standard office supplies at the Daily Makeover offices. They bring an instant refresh to taut, dehydrated winter skin in a matter of seconds—and you don’t even have to take off your makeup—or leave your keyboard—to do so.
While there’s tons of products out there on the market we love, you can also make your very own DIY facial spray with common ingredients found in the kitchen, no online shopping required. Just check out these two easy recipes that cater to dry and even acne-prone skin from Celebrity Facialist and Founder of Joanna Vargas Salon and Skincare Collection, Joanna Vargas.
Aloe/Lime Facial Mist
“Aloe is great for soothing and hydrating the skin, while the lime is packed with vitamin C, which is a powerful antioxidant to protect the skin from free radicals,” notes Vargas of this step-by-step.
3 tablespoons organic aloe
1/2 of one medium lime squeezed
1/2 cup distilled water
Directions: Mix all ingredients in a bowl and add to a spray bottle. Store in the refrigerator.
Cucumber/Mint Facial Mist
If you have acne-prone skin or have dark spots, listen up. Vargas says that the cucumber in this DIY can aid with cleansing oily skin, and the vitamin A found in the ingredient can also help fight dark spots. What’s more, she says that mint naturally contains salicylic acid and anti-inflammatory properties.
one medium chopped cucumber
1/2 of one medium lemon
one organic mint tea bag
1/2 cup distilled hot water
Directions: Mash the cucumber in a bowl and put in a cheese cloth to squeeze out the juice from the cucumber. Vargas says that you could also just juice the cucumber. Add in the lemon juice. Steep the mint tea bag in the hot water for approximately five minutes. You can also use fresh mint leaves in hot water instead of the tea bag. After steeping, wait for the tea to cool and add the cucumber/lemon juice and store in a spray bottle in the refrigerator.
