Converse showed their Spring/Summer 09 collection at Exit Art today. The space is set up sleekly and minimally with videos above each capsule collection. My new favorite shoe is the Warrior ’86. Most people don’t know this about me, but I’m an avid basketball fan. And as any basketball fan knows, this shoe is part of history. This is THE shoe that Magic Johnson and Larry Bird wore in their heyday. Converse decided to re-release it this season with the original stitching and colors.
The coolest video was the one Ryan McGinley (best known for his photographs of downtown kids and for being the youngest artist to have had a solo show at the Whitney) shot this season’s “Get Chucked” Converse by John Varvatos ad campaign. While he shot the campaign, he also shot a short film at the infamous Florent restaurant in the meatpacking district set to the music of The Virgins.
