When you’re talking about aspirational celebrity hair, one name comes to mind: Connie Britton. Her strawberry blonde waves even have their own twitter account. Connie’s hair has been making us swoon us ever since she starred as Tami Taylor, our ultimate life hero, on Friday Night Lights—and as Rayna James on Nashville, her curly locks inspire us on a weekly basis. Similarly inspiring? Her commitment to feminist issues and the United Nations, not to mention her passionate support for breast cancer charities. At this point, how could she NOT be our Woman Crush Wednesday? We have a crush on her every day of the week.
So to celebrate the season return of Nashville tonight, we’re taking a look back at all the times her hair was absolutely perfect. Join us for a stroll down amazing hair memory lane.
In the late 90s, Connie—then a rising starlet with a major role on Spin City—was still rocking the red hair, but it was a decidedly burgundy shade. We may or may not have dabbled with that same color (okay, we definitely did), but it didn’t look half as good on us as it did on Connie. This was our first indication that she is made of magic.
By 2003, Connie had brought The Hair back to the strawberry blonde shade that we’d come to know and love, styling it in this 70s-inspired flip and pairing it with flawless eyebrows. Texas forever, indeed.
After starring in the first (and only good) season of American Horror Story, Connie Britton’s Hair was finally getting the love that it deserved. The loose waves paired with the perfectly pink lips are a stunning reminder that yes, Virginia, redheads CAN wear shades of fuchsia.
We believe that Connie’s Emmys hairstyle in 2011 may be the only non-terrible deployment of a faux bob in red carpet history. She may not wear updos very often, but when she does, watch out. This is perfect.
Just in case you were wondering if Connie also looks flat out amazing in a red lip, the answer is yes.
By 2013, The Hair was a little more blonde, the layers slightly longer, the part more frequently over to one side. Still the same: the superhuman volume, shone and curl at the end. Why isn’t this hair on our heads right this second?
Oh, you think Connie can’t totally slay a straight blowout? Incorrect.
As Rayna James on Nashville, Connie’s hair is curlier and bigger across all dimensions—it takes a brave woman to wear that many extensions and look this good doing it, and Britton is nothing if not bold.
Shut it down. Nobody will ever have hair this good ever again. Connie is actually incredible. Side note: how amazing is it that she always lets her natural freckles fly free on the red carpet? Love.
Veronica Lake herself would be envious of Connie’s smooth, sideswept waves here—but let’s face it, who isn’t?
Connie genuinely does beachy waves better than anyone, and we think we’ve decoded the secret: even when they’re undone and spiraling in multiple different directions, her hair is never messy. There’s never frizz nor flyaways—her waves are uneven, but they’re done. Truly, she is aspirational in all ways…and we can’t wait for Nashville tonight!
