Cinderella Lips: Could It Be the “Next Big Thing” in Lip Injections?

Heard the term “Cinderella Lips” recently? While it may have sparked visions of that pretty pink lipstick hue the princess wears so well, we’re here to tell you… well, it has nothing to do with that. The only thing good ole’ Cindy and these lip injections (yep!) have in common is that they don’t stick around for too long.

According to Glamour, this is a temporary lip injections procedure that’s picking up some steam in Europe, specifically in London. The site reports that one clinic—Harley Street Skin Clinic—is advertising that the procedure consists of saline injections to the lip line, which reportedly only last for about 24 to 48 hours.

So why’s it only last for that super short period of time? Apparently, the body gets rid of it pretty quickly. “There’s not much of a safety concern with injecting saline into the body as it’s eliminated from the system rather easily,” Julia Tzu, M.D., of Wall Street Dermatology was quoted as saying in a recent article by Glamour.

In a board certified discussion forum on, Michael A. Zadeh, MD, FACS, explained that this ingredient is “reabsorbed” into the body quickly, but he doesn’t think it’s a realistic look at what filler injections would look like say you went down that road. “The saline is reabsorbed rather quickly, yet it doesn’t give you completely accurate results of what your filler injections would look like. I would advise against this because saline injections still involve using a needle along with its associated risks of bleeding, bruising, scar tissue formation, etc,” he noted.

While the full, pouty look won’t last long—a plus for anyone who’s still unsure about the commitment you deal with when getting more drastic injections—you may still have to deal with the less-than-ideal side effects.

One expert in the same forum, New York Dermatologist Michelle S. Green, explained that Goldie Hawn reportedly received this treatment years ago for her role in “The First’s Wives Club” to make her lips appear bigger.

Obviously, this isn’t the biggest lip injections news we’ve heard in the past few months. Does the #kyliejennerchallenge (a trend where fans on Instagram used suction to plump up their lips) ring a bell?

Kylie Jenner recently admitted to getting temporary fillers, after months and months of speculation. She famously denied the rumors of plastic surgery, leaving most to believe she just had some pretty amazing lip liner skills. Kylie didn’t confirm the news of her injections until a “Keeping Up With the Kardashians” episode aired where she stated, “I might have tip-toed around the truth, but I didn’t lie.”
