When it comes to our lashes, we don’t mess around. We all want a go-to mascara that truly opens up our eyes for the day-to-day, because sometimes you just need a little help to look more awake. So, what is the best volumizing mascara out there? Well, obviously we asked some of our favorite beauty editors which ones they pick up on the daily, and of course, they had plenty to say about it. ShuUemura

Shu Uemura Petal Lash Mascara is the only volumizing mascara I’ve come across that doesn’t immediately clump up upon hitting my lashline, I love this one because it also defines as it volumizes — so lashes look like lashes and not some amorphous, hair caterpillar perched on your eyelids. I’m also a fan of the glossy black finish — most mascaras tend to dry rather flat and matte, which makes them look a bit crusted up. This feels soft, looks fluttery, and the patent shine adds more dimension and the illusion of length. Basically it’s a mascara miracle.” – Megan McIntyre, Beauty Director, Refinery29

Marc Jacobs O!Mega – My lashes are long but scrawny so I need a mascara that really delivers on volume but doesn’t actually add much length. This one gives false-lashes level thickness with a brush that’s big but not too big, and a conditioning formula that doesn’t dry out my lashes even when I really pile it on. Plus, it doesn’t flake, doesn’t smudge, and removes easily at the end of the day. I’ve been using mine way longer than the recommended three months, but I can’t bring myself to throw it out – I love it that much.” – Dawn Spinner Davis, Beauty Director, Total Beauty

Maybelline Lash Sensational, the only mascara that lengthens and infuses volume enough to make me not want to commit su in between lash extensions breaks.” – Amber Katz, Rouge18

“I have two go-to mascaras for volume. For every day, I love Neutrogena Healthy Volume Mascara. It’s foolproof to apply (no clumps!), and makes your lashes look 10 times fuller without looking fake. When I want a little more drama, though, I reach for Lancome Grandiose Wide Angle Fan Effect Mascara in Noir Mirifique. The pigment is inky black in the best eye-opening way, and the swan-like shape of the brush lets me coat every lash, making them seem fuller, longer, and more curled—triple win!” —Lindsey Unterberger, Executive Editor, Glamour’s

“Not one to shy away from insanely long lashes (you know – the kind that belong in a Burlesque show), I’m currently a huge fan of Stila HUGE Extreme Lash Mascara. I normally hate fat wands, but this one gets it right. The hourglass shaped brush hits every hair with the perfect amount of lash boosting blackness (pitch black, blackness). With just a few quick strokes, I’m the Drag Queen of my dreams. Lash goals achieved!” – Felicia Walker Benson, This That Beauty

“I’m honestly obsessed with the Too Faced Better Than Sex Mascara, it’s the only one I use these days after years of cocktailing a variety of different formulas. The product’s moniker makes a pretty bold claim, but considering how it makes my lashes so voluminous that they almost look fake, I’d say it lives up to its name. I especially love how I can layer it on without getting that clumpy, spider-leg effect, and it holds up surprisingly well in the summer heat and humidity.” – Marianne Mychaskiw, Assistant Beauty Editor, InStyle
