Any eye lover knows mascara is great and eyeshadow is a must, but eyeliner is the real star of the show. No smokey or cat-eye would be complete without the perfect liner. Whether you prefer liquid, pencil, or kohl, eyeliner is a crucial element for every beauty bag. And because there are so many on the market—at every price point, no less—it can be a challenge to sort through them all. To figure out which are truly the best eyeliners, we tapped our resident “eye girl” at Daily Makeover (*cough, cough*) to reveal her top picks.

This inky Feline Flick from Charlotte Tilbury ($30, charlottetilbury.com) is ideal for anyone who craves a perfect '60s cat-eye. The felt tip glides over lids for a smooth application, while the formula is so strong it lasts all day. No joke.

Another editor favorite, the Votre Vu Le Joli Crayon ($23, votrevu.com), has more of a gel-like finish and requires very little reapplication over the span of use. If this isn't worthy of a liner MVP, we don't know what is.

Any makeup lover who is into experimenting with new products will go crazy for the K-beauty-inspired Stila Got Inked Cushion Liner ($28, ulta.com). Simply dip the brush into this pillow pot and watch the pigment soak into the tip. Apply to lids for a script-like look that lets you get as thick—or thin—of a line as your heart desires.

This new drugstore staple from COVERGIRL comes in the form of the truNaked Waterproof Eyeliner Duo Pencil ($9, walgreens.com). The double-ended pencil liner has a waterproof formula that is entirely blendable thanks to the duo of complementary shades. Plus, it's the exact product Katy Perry wore to the Golden Globes. If it's good enough for Katy, it's good enough for us!

Any fitness aficionado will adore Eyeko Sport Waterproof Eyeliner ($20, beauty.com), which goes on thick and bold—two of eyeliner lovers favorite adjectives, mind you—and lasts through outdoor runs and workout sessions, watery eyes, and unexpected nasty precipitation.

Smashbox Always Sharp Waterproof Kohl Liner ($20, smashbox.com) is one of our all-time favorites. The variety of colors to choose from mixed with the brilliant pencil design that sharpens every time you screw on and off the cap are a winning combo for sure.

You might not suspect a top-notch liner to come from a brand primarily known for their nail polish, but Julep struck gold with their If Looks Could Thrill Eyeliner Trio ($30, julep.com). Although the liquid formula and brush tip are great, it's the pigment that makes this particular liner a winner. Pearl pigments are mixed into liquid black to add a touch of unexpected sparkle when you blink.

We have a feeling the Kat Von D Tattoo Liner ($19, sephora.com) will be a staple in our eye kit for years to come. This calligraphy-style pen makes every type of line possible. Plus this jet black, rock 'n' roll-inspired hue is one of the strongest we used. It won't budge unless you tell it to. Sold.

Although we're suckers for Too Cool For School's adorable New York-inspired packaging on their new Dinoplatz Highline Eyeliner ($22, sephora.com), the product is also something to admire. The creamy gel formula is gentle and soft, which is a necessity around your eye area, if you ask us!

When Drew Barrymore speaks, we listen. That's So Kohl! Kohl Eyeliner ($8, walmart.com) from the celeb's beauty line has the perfect smokey eye written all over it. Not only is the chubby stick easy to use—think of it like a giant coloring crayon—but with a built-in smudging sponge, mastering a sexy smize has never been easier.
