Angelina Jolie turns 39 today, so we're celebrating the only way we know how: with tons of hairstyles. The actress has gone from gothic to glamorous before finding her signature look. This week, we’re welcoming Jolie back to the red carpet post-surgery with a look back at the many hair and makeup styles she’s rocked throughout the years.
1997
Angelina didn’t always have luscious locks! She sported a short pixie cut in the first few years of her career.

1999
After growing out her pixie cut, she surprised us by going blonde.

2000
The following year, she returned to the dark side and colored her hair black. She completed her new look with extensions and a dramatic cat eye to accept her Best Supporting Actress award at the Oscars.

2002
Fast forward a few years, it looks as if Jolie discovered the concept of an eyebrow pencil! She arrived to the Golden Globes with a sleek bun and bold brows that look like they might have been drawn on with a Sharpie marker.

2003
In 2003, Jolie toned down her dramatic makeup but chose over-the-top, waist-length extensions.

2004
In 2004, Jolie debuted a much more polished look as she filmed Mr. & Mrs. Smith and struck up a relationship with co-star Brad Pitt.

2005
Then she cut off a few inches and went blonde, again! This time she went for a blonde that suited her skin tone better. The following year, Jolie would be named Most Beautiful by People magazine.

2008
A very pregnant Jolie debuted a dark brown hue at the Cannes Film Festival.

2008
Only three months after giving birth, Jolie showed off her slimmed down figure and her darkened locks.

2009
In 2009, she went blonde for her role in "Salt."

2010
In 2010, Jolie returned to a light brown. She also added bangs and extensions!

2012
We loved Angelina’s red lip at the 2012 Oscars, but it was her bare leg that stole the show. “Angelina’s leg” quickly became an internet meme.

2013 This week, Jolie has looked as radiant as ever as she’s made the red carpet rounds in support of Pitt’s new film, "World War Z"—her first public appearances since her preventative double mastectomy.
