It’s the beginning of August and just about everyone I know is sick. Everyone in my office is sick, my roommates have horrible coughs, and the guy I’m dating can’t stop blowing his nose. I can’t help but think that my time is about to come.
I went to Duane Reade to stock up on Airborne and water. Yes, Airborne kinda has a bad rap right now. They just paid $23.3 million to settle a lawsuit regarding false advertising and agreed to reimburse customers for up to six purchases of Airborne products. But that doesn’t mean that I’m not still a fan and it definitely doesn’t mean that it doesn’t have any beneficial qualities. The main ingredient in Airborne is vitamin C. Dr. Jerry Gordon on howstuffworks.com says that it’s been shown that taking high doses of vitamin C at the beginning of a cold can reduce the severity of the symptoms to a modest degree, due to a mild antihistaminic effect. To be fair, that’s all we can really ask for. And even better, the handy packaging allows you to take it on the go!
