Ann Dexter-Jones’s Instagram account is filled with pictures of her famous friends, including Mick Jagger, Rihanna, and Daphne Guinness. Then there are her “proud mom” posts that celebrate the successes of her wildly talented children, musician Mark Ronson, DJ Samantha Ronson, designer Charlotte Ronson, musician Alexander Dexter-Jones and actress Annabelle Dexter-Jones.

She’s accomplished quite a bit herself: The British-born Dexter-Jones, who moved to New York City in the 1980s, is the force behind her namesake jewelry line, Ann Dexter-Jones Design, sold at top retailers like Net-A-Porter and Barneys. (One might say she was born to do it—her paternal grandfather was the jeweler to Kaiser Franz Josef of Austria. NBD.)

How would you describe your style?
I see and feel my style of dress as chic with a huge twist of rock ‘n’ roll. My only question when deciding what to wear is: How do I feel, and what articles of clothing fit my mood and my fancy today? A little lightness of thought is always important for me, whilst keeping in touch with the occasion.

Who or what inspires your style?
My style icons cut a wide swath and include ’70s designer Ossie Clark and his genius textile artist Celia Birtwell, Zandra Rhodes, Audrey Hepburn, Pierre Cardin, Stephen Sprouse, Zac Posen, Charlotte Ronson, Oscar de la Renta, and J.Crew.

How has your look changed or evolved over the years?
The length of my shorts and my skirts. [Laughs]

Is there a piece of clothing or jewelry you never leave home without?
I never remove a set of diamond stacking rings and a gold pinky ring engraved for Mother’s Day; my little gauze sack of healing stones; my favorite T-shirt; pretty underwear.

How would you define New York City fashion?
Everything and anything goes. I just love New York style. It’s like watching theater—whether uptown or downtown, it’s all fabulous.

What are some of your favorite shops in the city?
What Goes Around Comes Around for vintage, Paul Smith, and the flea market on Sixth Avenue on a Sunday. Anywhere that has the excellent taste to stock and sell my Ann Dexter-Jones Design jewels or Charlotte Ronson. Uptown, I like Barneys, Oscar de la Renta, and J.Crew on Madison.
