If you want to know what the cool kids will be wearing next season, Alexander Wang‘s runway is usually a good place to start. Saturday’s show, held at a church in Midtown Manhattan, was no exception, with teen royalty like Kylie Jenner and Amandla Stenberg sitting front row and a collection that seemed designed with Internet culture and youthful rebellion in mind. There were sweaters, tights, and hats emblazoned with words like “girls” and “faded”, fuzzy sweaters adorned with pole dancers, and pot leaves printed everywhere from snakeskin handbags to shawl-collared coats.
Groundbreaking designs? Maybe not. But they were the kind of clothes that Wang’s inner circle of downtown bad girls (and those who want to be them) are surely going to gobble up. We’d bet good money that the angora minidress on Anna Ewers will be popping up in one of the Hadid sisters’ Instagram feeds before it even hits shelves, and the silver-studded ankle boots will be quick sell-outs. In the meantime, you can bet that fast fashion retailers are going to be jumping on the look with “inspired” pink beanies and sheer tops with censor bars across the front (both scandalous and Instagram friendly!)
