Here’s a sneak peek at the AKA Spring 2009 collection. Designed by Karen Reinitz (who also happens to be my first-ever boss in the world of fashion–we worked at ELLE magazine together) and Abigale Levinson (another former ELLE editor), the contemporary line never fails to produce the best must-have items that you’ll want to wear time and time again all season long. Case in point: In their first collection, they had a simple cornflower blue vneck dress with strings of beads lining the hem. I wore it all summer long and into the early fall until the beads fell off. It was like the dress equivalent of those string “wish bracelets” that you tie on and wear until they break naturally, causing your wish to come true. Except this time, I was only left with another wish–the wish for another AKA dress.
Anyhow, needless to say, it’s been one of my favorite lines since it’s inception way back when I was a market assistant toiling away in the ELLE fashion closet. I always look forward to seeing what’s new for offer at their seasonal press previews, which are consistently held at Frederic Fekkai with the added bonus of complimentary blow-out’s and manicures. And this morning’s preview certainly didn’t disappoint.
Along with the black jumpsuit (far right) and the 1930s-inspired floral jumper (second from left), there are more than a few other pieces I’m looking forward to wearing out next spring.
