The large crowd outside a warehouse on 11th Ave alerted me to where I was headed for the VPL show on Saturday. Inside the venue, a large transparent screen with the image of a very buxom plasticized figure served as a reminder of the theme- “exquisite corpse.”
The collection featured several of Victoria Bartlett’s signature pieces- bras in lightweight cotton with elastic straps, perfect briefs shown off by being worn over lightweight leggings, and knits with unexpected bursts of color. This time, her elastic belts worn at the waist looked a little too much like medical bandages.
New shapes included a great cropped cocoon jacket and heavy knit dresses with open sides (to show off the underwear, of course). There were also new fabrications- most notably a questionable cape and vest made entirely out of human hair.
