Yesterday, I took a stroll over to my friend Melissa Drayer’s showroom to take a look at her new spring 2009 collection for Thread Social. Melissa, along with her design and business partner Beth Blake, is the talent behind the line that’s become a fashion industry darling. For those of you who don’t know, Thread is a line of chic bridesmaid dresses guaranteed to not only quell your 27-Dresses-induced-nightmares, but also make you want to wear said bridesmaid dress again….and again. To a party. Or on a date. Or to a bar, even. Yes, I am being completely serious. That said, Thread Social, a line started in 2006 by Blake and Drayer, was naturally the obvious predecessor to Thread. The ready-to-wear line is always filled with pretty, perfectly fitting dresses and seperates that you’ll want to wear again…and again. Noticing a theme by now, are we?
And so, when I walked into the showroom yesterday, eagerly anticipating a slew of new designs, I was surprised to see Mel crouched down on the floor, kneeling at the hem of a gorgeous white wedding gown on form. Bridesmaid dresses, I knew about. But wedding gowns? That’s something I hadn’t considered. Apparently, the duo will custom make wedding gowns by special request (the one pictured above is for a personal friend of Melissa’s). Staring at the voluminous folds of white fabric, and watching Mel hard at work, I found myself having visions of flowers and sunsets and cake and dresses. And then I shook myself from my reverie to realize that maintaining a healthy relationship for longer than three consecutive months would probably be the logical first step towards the imaginary altar. Sigh.
Oh, and one more thing: their new Thread Social collection is their chicest yet. Make sure to look for it in stores come spring.
