Zara's sunny yellow suit is an affordable way to get into spring's colorful suiting trend without breaking the bank. As if the eye-catching color wasn't enough, modern details like a cropped cuffed trouser and curved lapel add fashion-forward appeal.

  • Rachel Roy RS13 8615.jpg

We're loving this punchy pink Rachey Roy confection from the designer's Spring 2013 collection. For work, tone down the shade by adding a basic white or light blue button-down.

  • J.Crew

J.Crew put a flowery twist on a classic cotton suit for Spring '13. Note the elongated blazer, which looks particularly sophisticated with matching cropped trousers, and a pointy-toe pump.

If bright, busy prints feel a tad intimidating, ASOS' black-and-white checkered suit offers an on-trend alternative. With its crisp geometric motif, the look is undeniably cool yet totally work-appropriate.

  • Oscar de la Renta

Sweet and chic, Oscar de la Renta's cropped seersucker suit strikes the perfect balance between feminine charm and no-nonsense professionalism. As an added bonus, the jacket's subtly-flared hem creates the illusion of an itty-bitty waist.

Simple and sporty, Acne's classic navy suit is a wardrobe workhorse: Wear the cropped trouser and matching blazer together for a chic office look, or style the pieces separately—the jacket with a swishy printed skirt, for example—to gussy up more casual fare.

  • A look from Prabal Gurung RS13.

For an avant-garde take on a traditional suit, Prabal Gurung paired a silky shrunken jacket and matching trouser in black with a long, asymmetrical lace tunic, which fluttered down past the hip like a tiny train.

  • DKNY RS13 0838.jpg

For a tougher take on the traditional suit, DKNY paired a silky black blazer with ankle-length leather trousers for Spring 2013. While we'd advise against rocking your sports bra to work, the look works easily with a silk button-down or crisp tank.

There's nothing dated about this silky nude suit from ASOS, which pairs a slouchy open jacket with tapered drawstring trousers for a cool, understated effect. Pair with an easy tank and low-heeled booties for work or play.

  • Michael Kors

When warmer temperatures arrive, experiment with one of spring's sassy short-suits like this black-and-white striped Michael Kors number. While Kors kept the look decidedly summery with a black crop top and two-tone sandals, the look can still work for spring transition with black tights, ankle boots, and a long-sleeved tee underneath.

For some, the phrase “work wardrobe” conjures up dreary visions of humdrum blazers and ill-fitting trousers. Well, upwardly mobile friends, we’ve got some good news for you: Thanks to a razor-sharp focus on suits both on the runways and the streets, we’re seeing a new crop that are anything but boring.

On recent runways, we saw the rise of the super-chic suit in various incarnations. From slim-cut menswear-inspired versions at Saint Laurent to the vibrant printed matching jackets and pants at Prada, the suit was interpreted in a number of inspiring ways. It’s also worth noting that the rise of the fabulously slouchy shorts-suit is hitting its stride, with designers like Alexander Wang and Michael Kors making the summer staple exponentially more stylish.

Luckily, the modern suiting trend has been interpreted in a number of accessible ways and at various price points, as evidenced by the looks we’ve included in the gallery above.

So even if they don’t score you that (obviously deserved!) raise, these new suits are guaranteed to earn you a major style promotion wherever you go.
