Stomping the Divots With Matthew McConaughey: Inside the 6th Annual Veuve Clicquot Polo Classic

Endless champagne (rose or brut your choice), horses, and the Statue of Liberty as a backdrop. That was the scene at the 6th annual Veuve Clicquot Polo Classic this weekend, held on Liberty Island.
To get to the classic guests had to take ferries from Lower Manhattan and then a trolly. The journey is of course well worth it when you are greeted with Veuve Clicquot at the end of it and get to hobnob with the likes of Mathte McConaughey and his wife Camila Alves, who played host at the event. Their charity, the Just Keep Livin Foundation, which aids under-privileged high school students, was the beneficiary of this year’s event.
Famed polo player Nacho Figueras was also in attendance, though not playing thanks to a broken pelvis. His 13-year-0ld son Hilario stepped in in his place. Hilario’s team Black Watch beat the opposing Nespress team 8-6, proving there really must be something to being a Figueras.
