It may be that a bunch of designers in New York were heavily influenced by the explosive popularity of 50 Shades of Grey while they were designing their Spring 2013 collections, or it may well be that the elaborate harnesses Zana Bayne designed for Prabal Gurung last season were more trend-setting than anyone could have imagined. (It may be argued, however, that Gary Graham had perfected the leather harness several seasons before that.)
Whatever the cause, harnesses and corseting have proven an interesting micro-trend on the spring runways at New York Fashion Week thus far — giving feminine dresses some edge and adding a slick, S&M vibe to skintight ensembles.
