Only her second time showing in New York, French import Sophie Theallet seems to have avoided succumbing to the urban jungle. This season she showed a collection of free spirited folk-inspired dresses and separates. From top to bottom, the hippie vibe came through from tied-on headband and gold hoop earrings, to punched leather waist belts, to Sorel moccasin boots.
The detailing was sweet and unexpected. I loved the extra banding and fringe she added to the sleeves of dresses and surprise multiple buckles on the back of belts.
A nice surprise came after what we thought was the last look, when one more model came down the runway in another unique and beautiful tiered skirt and sheer tunic.
Inspired by the Cherokee saying “The death of fear is in doing what you fear to do,” Theallet has nothing to worry about, her design instincts are on the right track.
