Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez: Hollywood's most adorable twosome is the most recent celebrity duo to call it quits. Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez ended their almost two-year relationship last month shortly after a slew of rumors about the pop prince and some Victoria's Secret Angels began circulating. Reportedly the two are back together, as the pair has been seen together multiple times since the breakup, including at an American Music Awards after party. We know it's puppy love, but we hope it survives somehow.

Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson: "Twilight" fans were devastated when news of Kristen Stewart and co-star Robert Pattinson's split broke. After incriminating photos of Stewart and "Snow White and the Huntsman" director Rupert Sanders surfaced, it was all downhill for the "Twilight" stars, who ended their relationship soon after. Luckily, the two are back together and have been busy promoting the last film in the "Twilight" franchise

Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes: The breakup of TomKat was some of this summer's hottest (and most shocking) celebrity news. When actress Katie Holmes announced her split from actor Tom Cruise after being married for five years, everyone - including Cruise it seems - was surprised. Now Holmes is more successful than ever and shows no sign of slowing down. Perhaps a clean break was all she needed.

Taylor Swift and Conor Kennedy: This duo is never, ever, ever getting back together. Pop star Taylor Swift and her 18-year-old boyfriend Conor Kennedy broke up in October after a whirlwind summer romance and a series of public displays of affection. We're not quite sure what Swift is going to do with the house she bought right across the street from Kennedy's grandmother, but on the bright side, at least Swift has some material for her next album!

Heidi Klum and Seal: After seven years, the storybook marriage of "Project Runway" host Heidi Klum and singer Seal came to a surprising end in January. This breakup was a particularly sad one because the couple, who renewed their vows every year, hosted Halloween parties together and constantly boasted their love in the media, seemed to truly be a perfect match.

Johnny Depp and Vanessa Paradis: After being together for more than a decade, French actress Vanessa Paradis and "Pirates of the Caribbean" actor Johnny Depp ended their relationship. But Depp won't let a break up keep him down. It's been rumored that he and his 26-year-old "The Rum Diary" co-star Amber Heard are now seeing one another. Poor Paradis!

Amy Poehler and Will Arnett: Even though Amy Poehler and Will Arnett are two seriously hilarious individuals, there was nothing funny about their split in September. After being married for nine years, the "Parks and Recreation" actress and "Arrested Development" actor parted ways amicably. The pair acted together in a number of productions, such as "Blades of Glory" and "Arrested Development," and we hope that just because they're no longer married, that doesn't mean the couple will stop working together.

Jennie Garth and Peter Facinelli: Citing irreconcilable differences, "Beverly Hills 90210" actress Jennie Garth and "Twilight" actor Peter Facinelli filed for divorce in March, just two weeks after they announced their split. Fortunately, the pair seem to be handling the break up well and have plans to share their three girls this holiday season

Danny Devito and Rhea Perlman: The breakup between actor Danny Devito and "Cheers" actress Rhea Perlman was one of the most unexpected splits of the year. The two tied the knot in 1982 after co-starring in the sitcom "Taxi," but after three decades together, they called it quits, much to the surprise of all their fans.

  • Eva Longoria and Eduardo Cruz have a romantic getaway

Eva Longoria and Eduardo Cruz: It looks as if this on-again, off-again couple might have finally called it quits for good. "Desperate Housewives" star Eva Longoria and singer Eduardo Cruz, brother to Penelope Cruz, initially ended their year-long relationship in March only to rekindle their romance and then break up again in June.

Sophia Bush and Austin Nichols: Another on-again, off-again couple called it quits this year - after more than half a decade together. Former "One Tree Hill" actress Sophia Bush and co-star Austin Nichols broke up in February after six years of dating. Nichols isn't the only "One Tree Hill" star Bush has been linked to though. She also dated and briefly married Chad Michael Murray and was with James Lafferty for some time as well. Hopefully the third time really is the charm, and Bush learned her lesson about mixing business with pleasure.

Like all good things, celebrity relationships must come to an end. Or at least it seems that way considering the high volume of break ups taking place on what seems like a daily basis. While most of these splits are highly predictable, there always seems to be a few that take Hollywood (and the rest of the world) by surprise.

This past year was no exception, and from the recent break up (and possible reunion) between pop prince Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez, to the heartbreaking divorce of “Project Runway” host Heidi Klum and singer Seal, 2012 has had its fair share of shocking celebrity splits.
