Aw! Congrats are in order for Sandra Bullock, who appears on the cover of the new issue of People to reveal she’s adopted a three-year-old daughter named Laila.

Bullock said the process has been going on for three years (so those rumors weren’t entirely untrue!) and credits adopted son Louis, five, for helping it along.

“Louis spearheaded this whole journey,” Bullock said. She added that bringing Laila—pronounced Lila—home was frightening: “I knew she was scared, and all I wanted was for her to know Louis and I weren’t going anywhere.”

Laila is from Louisiana and had been in foster care. “When I look at Laila, there’s no doubt in my mind that she was supposed to be here,” says Bullock, who adopted Louis in 2010.
