It was just over a year ago that bucket bags shot to prominence as the must-have handbag, thanks in large part to New York-based label Mansur Gavriel. But it seems like the slouchy shape is about to be usurped by saddle bags come fall 2015—and the cult-favorite brand that gave rise to bucket bags is also partly responsible for their downfall.
Designers Rachel Mansur and Floriana Gavriel introduced two new styles for their Fall 2015 collection: the top-handle Lady Bag and the minimalist Crossbody. Both have, unsurprisingly, started selling out like wildfire but it’s the latter style—a clean-lined take on the saddle bag—that we’re expecting to see on the arm of every fashion girl next season.
Given the ’70s resurgence that’s been happening in fashion, it makes perfect sense that saddle bags (which went gangbusters throughout the decade) are primed for a comeback. Indeed, the structured, round-bottomed style was seen on the Fall 2015 runways at Altuzarra, Tory Burch and Chloé, whose hardware-heavy Drew version is already a hit with top bloggers such as Song of Style’s Aimee Song and Viva Luxury’s Annabelle Fleur.
Saddle bags have been steadily infiltrating street style, too, so we can confidently say that the equestrian-style satchel is one item you should definitely add to your fall shopping list.
Since not everyone has $1,850 to spare on Chloé’s take or the patience for Mansur Gavriel’s epic waiting list, we’ve rounded up options at all different prices so you can get in on the trend regardless of your budget.
