While many felt a cash crunch this year and cut back on luxury spending as global growth remained tepid on the back of the recession, Hollywood A-listers didn’t seem to be affected whatsoever, and you know what that means: absolutely ridiculous purchases.
From $200,000 rides on an actual spaceship to $24,000 playhouses, we couldn’t get enough of reading about (and seeing) the absurd spending from some of our favorite celebrities.

Naomi Campbell acquired some unique and fabulous property this year. The supermodel snagged a house resembling a "Spaceship Yacht," commissioned by Russian billionaire architect and boyfriend Vladislav Doronin. The 28,524 square foot house was built in a highly-futuristic style by acclaimed architect Zaha Hadid, and although the total price isn't revealed, it's estimated at more than $20 million. Doronin gifted Campbell the home in Russia so they could live closer together. Lucky lady, no? As a side note, Campbell already owns an apartment in Moscow that he bought her...
Ashton Kutcher likes to treat himself, especially now that he's divorced from Demi Moore. This year, the actor purchased a $200,000 ticket on Virgin's SpaceShipTwo. The launch is expected in 2013, and Kutcher will be the 500th passenger on the spaceship. It just goes to show that if you have the cash in your bank account, you too can live every kid's dream.
Lady Gaga may be notorious for her outrageous outfits, but you might not know that the star believes in parnormal activity. "She (Lady Gaga) believes in paranormal activity and won't take any risks when she is on the road, it's important to her to be safe from spirits," her spokesperson said. Her remedy? She bought a $50,000 ghost detector this year to catch the pesky spirits. Let's hope it works out for her, and keeps the ghosts at bay.

What to buy for a man that already has everything? A helicopter, of course! Angelina Jolie gifted hubby Brad Pitt with this $1.6 million helicopter this year in addition to flying lessons. They reportedly installed a heli-pad at their home in the South of France to accomodate the purchase with hopes that they could have easy back-and-forth access between their home and the Cannes Film Festival.
Kim Kardashian and Kanye West aren't the most subtle Hollywood couple out there, so it's no surprise that after just three months of dating, she is confirmed to have shelled out $750,000 for his birthday present: a Lamborghini Aventador LP 700-4. Hey, if you've got it, flaunt it, right?
One of the most talked about babies of the year, Blue Ivy Carter, received some outlandish gifts from her mom Beyoncé's fellow Destiny's Child bandmate Kelly Rowland. One of them was reportedly a $5,200 pink baby-sized Swarovski crystal encrusted bathtub. Now that is how you take a bath!
No stranger to lavish gifts, Brad Pitt returned the favor for the lavish helicopter to soon-to-be wife Angelina Jolie by buying her this $390,000 Patek Philippe "Minute Repeater" watch, which is the most expensive model the company sells and normally requires getting on a wait list for. The timepiece has a gold and a pearl face, with an exotic skin band.
Usher attended a "Pencils of Promise" charity gala this October, and walked away with a new puppy. This puppy was no ordinary pooch: The Goldendoodle cost him $12,000. At least it was all in the name of charity, because unless a dog is studded in diamonds, it should never cost this much. Interesting fact: Jessica Szohr bid $11,000.

Suri Cruise has dealt with a lot this year: her parents' divorce, and a big move to New York City (where she was forced to downsize to a $12,000 a month Chelsea apartment). Her luck is about to turn around. Katie Holmes, the amazing mother that she is, had a $24,000 "Grand Victorian Luxury Playhouse" commissioned for her daughter to play in. The mini-house is as fancy as they come: it features a porch, cute little windows, and even window boxes. It's unclear as to where the house will be, as she lacks a backyard in Chelsea, but perhaps it will be located at one of Tom Cruise's palatial homes. Needless to say, it's causing a media frenzy.
"Mad Men" star Christina Hendricks was spotted carrying a $23,980 Farbod Barsum Isabella tote. The retro bowling bag is made of dyed alligator skin. The actress kept it casual by pairing her shockingly expensive handbag with a chambray shirt and jeans. Yes, we know that Kim Kardashian probably spent $100,000 on Birkins this year, but something about this Farbod Barsum (which doesn't offer as much designer caché as brands like Chanel or Hermès) makes the purchase outrageous. Nonetheless, she looks fabulous!
Big gift-givers Jay-Z and Beyoncé like to impress with their flashy style. This year, Beyoncé bought her beau a diamond Hublot "Big Bang" watch for a whopping $5 million. The piece is made of 1,282 VVS G color diamonds. We just hope that she got it insured—but knowing Bey and Jay, they probably have a security detail just for their jewelry whenever they leave the house.
