Held in a cavernous space at New York’s Pier 94, the Alexander Wang show eagerly anticipated on the Fashion Week calendar, and attracted everyone from Lea Michele to Courtney Love to Bill Cunningham and a bleacherful of Vogue editors.

Inspired by all sorts of power sports, including Nascar racing and motocross, the Spring 2012 Alexander Wang collection powered through with a strong visual impact, combining high-tech fabrics with the designer’s signature urban edge.

Lasercut mesh jackets, intarsia knits, bright technical polos, ripstop fabrics, scuba bags, BMX helmets, cycling tanks and chevron swimsuits were all given the Wang treatment and liberal doses of color. Paired with statement accessories such as rubberized stingray pumps and perforated eel bags, the result is a sleek and modern interpretation of athleticwear that you might actually consider wearing even if sample sale shopping is the only power sport you’ve tried.
