While hordes of fashion’s elite flock to The Tents to see established designers, Gen Art (an arts organization which helps showcase emerging talent in fashion, film, music, and other visual arts) hosted its 15th Anniversary Fresh Faces Fashion Show. This year the Fresh Faces show featured collections by women’s wear designers: Cloak & Dagger, Duskin, Linus, Min Young Lee, Yeojin Bae and Vicente Villarin and menswear designer S2VS. Also on display were accessory designers Dieppa Restrepo, Wendy Nichol, and Samma.
The evening was hosted by Joanna Garcia, the actress on Gossip Girl who was introduced to the series Wednesday night during the season premiere… Clever timing on that one Gen Art.
While I wore the most dramatic lipstick (Ruby by Dolce and Gabbana) courtesy of StyleCaster’s beauty editor Rachel Adler, the overall tone of the night is much more relaxed. Gen Art is probably the only show that will lovingly tolerate cheering after the emcee says, “Gossip Girl.” As each designer showcased their spring/summer 2010 collection, the drama of the industry slowed for a moment and the Metropolitan Pavillion was filled with a sympathetic appreciation and admiration for these emerging designers. Here’s a look at some moments from the night and our favorite looks from the various Gen Art Fresh Faces select designers:
