OK, this is adorable: In a new video out today, Australian supermodel Miranda Kerr sat down with a trio of children to teach them how to speak with an Australian accent. Teaming up with Derek Blasberg for Vanity Fair, the pair put the kids through their paces, starting them off small and working from there. “Just to warm you up, how about we do—Aussie, Aussie, Aussie!” “Aussie, Aussie, Aussie!” the kids repeated back with strangely perfect intonation. “Oi, oi, oi!” she shouted, shaking her fist. “Oi, oi, oi!” they shouted back.
“Yeah, they’re good already,” she said.
Though Blasberg had a whole lesson plan designed, Kerr didn’t seem sold on all of his tips. “The first step is soft intonation. Try talking without moving the tongue so much. Also, a soft, twangy style of voice,” Blasberg said. “I could understand why they could think that about an Australian accent,” Kerr said, clearly not convinced that this is the key to speaking like an Aussie. “I don’t know about this soft tongue business,” she added.
Next they had the children identify various things (grapes, a firefighter, Beyoncé) in an Australian accent. Though the kids didn’t exactly nail all of them, they gave it an adorable try. “I’m learning a thing or two,” Kerr said, adding later, “I really don’t talk like this! I’m getting a lesson from you.” The cutest! To see for yourself, watch the video below.
