Michelle Obama Wears Custom Thom Browne For Inauguration Day Events

Spencer Cain

Although the jury is still out on what Michelle Obama will wear to the Inaugural Ball tonight, she made her first public appearance today at St. John’s Episcopal Church in a custom coat and dress by designer Thom Browne. Both pieces of the ensemble are silk jacquard, and based on a necktie fabric.

Obama has made headlines in custom Thom Browne before, wearing a grey dress with black lace overlay from the designer at the final presidential debate in October, and also at the Democratic National Convention in September. She showed off her penchant for mixing high and low and paired the ensemble with a belt and gloves from J. Crew.

We can’t help but continue to admire Obama’s choice to wear a relatively offbeat designer and obviously, this will only cause Browne’s stock to surge. What do you think of FLOTUS’ first look of the day?
