Last night at the White House State Dinner, the First Lady of the United States and the First Lady of American fashion were by far the best dressed of the evening. Michelle Obama stunned in a scarlet Alexander McQueen gown from the Resort 2011 collection, and Vogue‘s Anna Wintour looked classically chic in a Chanel dress with a matching jacket.
The dinner honored Chinese president Hu Jintao, and in case you’re wondering what the editrix would ever talk to him about, she did have a bit of a hidden agenda: To ask the guest of honor to invest money in Chinese fashion.
Mrs. Obama looks positively regal in her McQueen gown, so I have to call this one for the FLOTUS. Way to make America proud! But who do you think was the State Dinner’s best dressed?

Anna Wintour was by far the best dressed. I love Michelle’s dress, but she doesn’t look comfortable in it at all. Michelle is not wearing the dress, it looks like the dress is wearing her.
I just read a (hilarious) blog, C’EST DEMODE, that noted: Anna Wintour wore the SAME outfit to the CFDA Awards and she was completely underdressed to the dinner… everyone else was wearing floor length gowns!!!

Anna wins best dressed award.
The red number looks like a 4H county fair prom dress entry gone bad except it’s not taffeta.
Anna Wintour always looks the same. Not only that, she keeps American Vogue looking more like Good Housekeeping. When will Conde Nast put her out to pasture.
Mrs. Obama was the best dressed, period. She looks so glamorous and elegant!!! That zigzag outfit on Anna Wintour is too distracting, although she still looks good in it. But she can’t hold a candle to Mrs. Obama.
