Honestly, Mary-Kate Olsen, it’s getting way too hard to keep up with your love life. Last year around this time, a paparazzi photo showed the actress-turned-designer eating lunch on a bench in the Hamptons alongside her 45-year-old French banker fiancé, Olivier Sarkozy, and both were wearing what looked like gold wedding bands.
Naturally, a flurry of slightly hysterical “DID THEY GET MARRIED?!” headlines ensued, and—according to one report—an “anonymous, well-connected source” confirmed that the couple were indeed husband and wife.
Well, maybe not. Now, Us Weekly is reporting that the pair actually have plans to get hitched next summer.
“They’re leaning toward a June event in the Hamptons,” says the source, with a second adding that the couple has “changed their plans a million times … her family can’t even keep up!”
MK, 29, first got engaged to Olivier in March 2014, with a vintage Cartier diamond-and-sapphire ring from 1953—a fitting choice for Olsen considering her affinity for unique vintage clothing—which was purchased at a jewelry auction at Sotheby’s, a source familiar with the matter told us.
According to our source, the ring originally belonged to a Tennessee-based jewelry collector and was bought at an auction in New York City. While the ring was originally estimated by Sotheby’s to fetch between $40,000 and $60,000, it ultimately sold for $81,250. And while that might seem like a hefty sum for an engagement ring (the average price paid for an engagement ring in the United States is $5,431), it is pretty modest by celebrity standards.
Whether they’re already married or really do plan to tie the knot this summer, the really big question is will we ever get to see a photo of the bride’s dress?
