The 1985 film Desperately Seeking Susan is Madonna in her absolute prime. The gold, the fishnets and the crimped hair are how we like to remember Madge.

For the Who's That Girl world tour in 1987, Madge let everyone know she wasn't afraid to take a fashion risk, wearing something that most would shy away from even on a beach.

Madonna's Jean Paul Gaultier corset that she donned during her Blond Ambition tour will go down in fashion history.

The first time Madonna channeled Marilyn Monroe was in her "Material Girl" video where she was decked out in diamonds, pearls and hunky male suitors.

Madonna was one of the first female artists to take the stage in ambiguous menswear inspired costumes, and she continues to do so to this day.

Madonna's "Like a Prayer" video received a ton of flack from religious groups worldwide who took issue with the Queen of Pop dancing around burning crosses. Well, we won't comment on that, but all we [...]

Madonna's role in Evita is absolutely one of her glamorous. Her stunning hair and smatterings of gold lamé made this a costume to remember.

While we adored Desperately Seeking Susan, A League of Their Own truly showed off Madonna's ability to act -- which certainly surprised naysayers. Madge's softball uniform costumes were amazing, and she looked incredibly comfortable in a baseball cap and loose curls. Also, seeing her and Rosie O'Donnell's onscreen dynamic is reason enough to revisit this film.

For her "Frozen" video from the critical smash Ray of Light, Madonna called upon her spirituality for a desert goth inspired romp.

In this legendary performance, Madonna went back to the basics: all black and some sheer. Perfect to kiss Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera on television in.

Does this gladiator moment at the NFL Super Bowl XLVI halftime show need any explanation?

During her current MDNA world tour, Madonna has been doing the whole Fifty Shades of Grey thing. Think catsuits and crucifixes. Costumes like these are what cause drama between her and Lady Gaga, as they have been performing similarly as of late.

In the "Don't Tell Me" video, Madonna channeled a couture cowgirl.

Even in her 50s, Madonna pulled off being a cheerleader.

The return of the Gaultier corset! This updated version at this year's MDNA tour was a complete throwback and we loved it.

Today, Madonna turns 54. Frankly, this seems almost impossible, considering there’s not a wrinkle on her face and her boyfriend Brahim Zaibat is a mere 24 years of age, but it’s true.

Madonna’s been entertaining the masses for decades now, and while she’s reinvented her personal style countless times, one thing has remained the same: she’s always fashionable — especially when it comes to costumes. From her stage shows to film roles to her epic music videos, she has a clear vision of what she wants to do and always accomplishes it.

In honor of Madge’s birthday, we’ve comprised a gallery of her most memorable costumes. Click through the slideshow above and share your favorites with us!
