I spent the better part of 2007 searching for gray nail polish. Not metallic, not grandma-pearlized, not shimmery. The best I could find was a sheer beige-gray from King’s Pharmacy on Bedford Avenue. Not even OPI made what I wanted, which is too bad, because they could have named it “Des Plaines Strip Mall Parking Lot.”
Gray polish started to trickle onto shelves (I bought a plastic-y version from Urban Outfitters) but none are as nice as the pretty gray released by KnockOut Cosmetics last week. KnockOut’s Concrete is a soft gray that dries to a flat finish–I’m talking porcelain–and gradually buffs to a soft satin. Plus, the Art Nouveau-style frosted bottle looks almost as good on your shelf as the polish does on your fingers, making the $19 price tag a little easier to bear.
Available at KnockOut Cosmetics.
