Kate Moss’ Self-Interpretation is Dead-On

Leave it to Kate Moss to use blood-red lipstick as her medium in art. On Saturday in London, Lyon and Turnbull will offer up Moss’ first painting to ever be sold at auction. Looking at it, my first impressions are: sexy, messy, unexpected, a little dark….kind of like the painter, herself. Done in 2005-2006, Moss used lipstick to create the self-portrait and included her own lip prints along with a dose of ex-boyfriend Pete Doherty’s blood. Of course, the figure in the painting is reclining in an offhand stance with smoke billowing out of a full, pursed mouth. I have to admit, it’s not the worst piece of work I’ve ever seen, but then again, it better be pretty damn brilliant as it’s already being estimated to garner between 30,000-40,000 pounds, which translates to roughly $80,000.

Can’t wait to see who the winning bidder will be.
