Karen Walker’s Fall 09 runway show wasn’t quite as “Cracked” as the title suggested. Rather, it was right on trend. Walker sent beautifully tailored pieces down the runway in ways that suddenly felt more relaxed than ever.
The trousers had just the right amount of pleats and a slight pegged leg. Variations included zippers at the ankle, belts with chain detailing, and even a pair made into the chicest sweatpants I’ve seen.
Subtle deconstructed elements became apparent- visible seams on shearling hats and jackets, printed silks of broken china plates and broken strands of pearls, and princess sleeves brought to an extreme. My favorites were jersey tops with flaps attached to the bottom that reminded me of wearing a shirt tied around your waist. The whole collection was beautiful, wearable, and very stylish. Suddenly I can’t wait for fall.
