Summer Packing Guide: July 4th Weekend!

Packing for a summer getaway should be easy right? Yet we still find ourselves overwhelmed by this daunting task.  While you could just throw your entire wardrobe into your bag and cross your fingers that you will have everything you need, our editors have come up with a series of packing guides to help you pack efficiently this summer.

There are plenty of things to love about summer but—if you’re anything like me—weekend getaways top your list. July 4th is coming up, and—like most city folk—I’m planning to hightail it straight to the beach for three whole days.

Since the whole point of a long summer weekend is to enjoy time off from the stress of work and my daily routine, the last thing I want to do is stress about what I’m packing. I want to be comfy and stylish for a weekend of activities that includes lazing at the beach, barbecuing with friends, and taking in some evening fireworks, but I don’t want to haphazardly throw everything I own into a bag.

Here, my absolute essentials for a July 4th getaway—or any weekend at the beach.

Reversible Bathing Suit

How cool is this fish-print one-piece? And—since it's reversible—I can get away with only packing one swimsuit for the weekend. #SpaceSaver!

Statement sunglasses

I'm a sucker for a cool pair of shades, and these do the trick.

Distressed Denim Shorts

For me, nothing says summer quite like the perfect pair of denim shorts. Right now, I'm partial to super-distressed styles with a slightly high waist.

Compact Razor

Obviously, smooth skin is a must for any beach weekend, and this Venus razor's mini-handle and compact case is perfect for a girl on-the-go.

Low-Heel White Leather Sandals

These will look crazy-chic with everything from denim shorts to skinny jeans, and I love the low chunky heel—who has time for teetering in 90-degree heat?

A casual matching set

I love anything that involves two matching pieces, and I especially love how this lightweight set is causal enough for late afternoons at the beach or a rooftop barbecue.

Flag Bikini

Yeah, I know I said I'd only bring one bathing suit, but what's July 4th without an American flag bikini? I'm only doing my patriotic duty.

Beach Tint Shimmer Souffle

I recently tried this new product and I'm beyond impressed at the super-dewy glow it gives me. Perfect on or off the beach!

Embossed Snake Leather Shopper

Not only will this paper-thin leather tote hold everything I tend to lug around with me, but lavendar is such a fun change from blah black and boring brown.

T-Shirt Dress

I love how a basic T-shirt dress can be so versatile—I'd throw it on with a pair of white Converse for a day of browsing in town, or out at night with low-heeled sandals.

Silk Scarf

I'd go a little retro with this silk scarf and tie it around my head turban-style at the beach. So chic!
