Jen Kao showed a very fractured collection for Fall 2009 that was also very complete. The palate of black, grey, and shades of purple were literally punctuated by shards of mirrors. The result was a collection that was both urban and natural. Relaxed shapes were made body conscious through architectural banding detail.
My favorites included a tailored cropped jacket in heathered grey, a relaxed suiting piece, and a mirrored gown that looked both celestial and like a shattered mirror on a sidewalk.
Another high note was the jewelry, designed by Eddie Borgo, who did Phillip Lim’s collection last season. Recently picked up by Barney’s, Bargo will be the new go-to for simple, clean, beautiful jewels with an edge.
