Jason Wu may be best known for his flattering, feminine dresses, but the designer gave his spring collection quite an edge with black leather harnesses, sheer black lace, and bold red lips.
Wu was inspired by two photographers for his spring collection: Helmut Newton and Lillian Bassman. Both photographers’ work have a raw, sensual energy, though Bassman has a softer touch than Newton. Looking to the collection, one sees the influences of both inspirations — Newton in leather corseting and Bassman in semi-sheer chiffon elements.
For fans of Wu’s signature craftsmanship, there’s still plenty to love in this collection, from lace separates (some rendered in a bold hot pink) to a series of gowns with frothy, sheer tulle skirts. Here, get a peek at the highlights from Wu’s spring line.
