It seems even Hedi Slimane isn’t immune to the charms of French Girl style: Saint Laurent just announced that Jane Birkin is the star of its newest campaign, modeling the label’s Le Smoking tuxes in a series of black-and-white portraits.
The 69-year-old singer was photographed a few days after Saint Laurent’s fall 2016 couture show in its Paris atelier and joins a long list of big-name musicians—Joni Mitchell, Courtney Love, Kim Gordon, Marilyn Manson—to front ads for the brand through Slimane’s ongoing music project.
Of all the stars cast so far, Birkin may be the one that best pays homage to the house’s history: In the 1960s, both she and Yves were the toast of Paris’s fashion scene, and the designer reportedly put on private runway shows just for her benefit. She’s also a loyal customer, wearing ruffled couture gowns then and artfully disheveled suits now sitting front row at the brand’s shows.
Update: The brand has now announced that Cara Delevingne will front the campaign for their Collection de Paris—that is, the couture collection that was shown earlier this month—further shaking up the traditional six-month lead time that most fashion houses abide by. The model was last tapped by Slimane in Fall 2013. See images from both below:
