The first trailer for ‘The Danish Girl” is here, and it’s incredible. After nabbing an Oscar for his role as Stephen Hawking in “The Theory of Everything,” Eddie Redmayne is again playing the lead in this moving new drama.

The flick is based on the true story of transgender Danish artist Einar Wegener (portrayed by Redmayne). Einar, known as Lili Elbe after transitioning, was one of the first people to undergo sexual reassignment surgery.

Redmayne stars alongside Alicia Vikander, who plays Wegener’s wife, Gerda, in the movie. Set in the 1920s, “The Danish Girl” is directed by Tom Hooper of “The King’s Speech” fame, and, judging by the epic trailer, is going to be a winner when awards season roles around.

The film premieres on Saturday, September 5th at the Venice Film Festival, but you won’t be able to see it in U.S. cinemas until November 27th. In the meantime, take a look at the arresting trailer for the movie, and get excited.
