"I've been really looking to nature and drawing inspiration from nature's architecture, texture and colors. I'm working a lot with a neutral color palette, which I feel like is representative of purity and innocence and full of hidden energy and the ability to transform, sort of like nature -- fresh and new but always timeless," explains Yigal on the inspiration behind his Spring/Summer 2013 collection.

Does Yigal change his approach to every season? Not so much. Yigal explains saying, "My process hasn't really changed over the past couple years. I really like to start looking at fabrics first and then pursue the design elements after. I let the fabric speak to me. It really gives me the energy to start my design process."

Not just anyone catches Yigal's eye when he's walking down the street, "I'm really inspired by women who embody an effortless sophistication. Someone who isn't trying too hard and someone who is confident and bold with her fashion choices."

Yigal claims he always has an espresso and pins on him during fashion week craziness.

When thinking about his ideal woman to dress, Yigal reflects on a past icon, "Audrey Hepburn," the designer reveals, "I love her simplicity, elegance and understated glamour."

With so many options available for women shoppers to pick from, Yigal suggests having "A leather jacket, definitely. It's a great transitional piece that can be worn in the fall or the winter but also during the summer. You can pair it with pants and simple T-shirt during the day or even over a cocktail dress to add a bit of toughness or edge but still look really effortless and cool."

It’s easy to have the misconception that the collections seen on the runway materialize out of thin air. Blood, sweat and most definitely tears go into every show, and with that in mind, we asked some of the most prominent and influential designers and stylists — both established and emerging — to share a day in their lives (in their own words) as they prepare for New York Fashion Week.

A fashion forward and fearlessly modern designer of his day, Yigal Azrouël continues to surprise us each and every season with new ideas in ready-to-wear.  He never shies away from combining textures of all sorts, be it knits, furs, leather and more.

We love the wearability of his fashions and the ease with which they turn any conservative outfit into an outgoing and right on trend fashion statement. Read on to see exclusive sketches and behind-the-scenes action as he prepared for his show.
