The first weekend of Coachella is upon us and while this year’s buzzy headliners are sure to bring the heat (I mean, we are talking about Axl Rose here), half the fun of the festival is people watching. And with festival permeation at an all-time high, anyone who’s anyone (or wants to be someone) wouldn’t miss the chance to book a direct flight to the desert.

Fashion It-Girls: You can spot It-girls like Alexa Chung, Harley Viera-Newton, and Leigh Lezark hitting up Coachella with other fellow DJs/models/socialites/luxury brand ambassadors. While some are there to spin (a very popular It-girl profession), others are there to host parties with brands or hob nob with other equally trendy fashion people.

Semi-famous Celebs Who Look Like a Free People Ad: These are the celebs that usually provoke the question, "What have they been doing?" since they've basically stopped working and are mostly chilling. This particular celeb sub-culture is probably the most well-suited to Coachella, since most of them are walking Free People ads (we're looking at you, Vanessa Hudgens and Kate Bosworth).

Supermodel Squads: You can usually count on most of the Victoria's Secret Angels to party on down in Indio for Coachella, but runway heavy-hitters like Jourdan Dunn, Karlie Kloss, and even Agyness Deyn have all made leggy, glamorous appearances in years past. Festival MVPs for the models include Alessandra Ambrosio and Behati Prinsloo (usually with Adam Levine in tow.)

Insta-generation Cool Teens: Mostly underage and definitely cooler than you, these kids spend Coachella taking selfies that will no doubt garner thousands of likes. From reality tv starlets Kylie and Kendall Jenner to models Gigi Hadid and Hailey Baldwin, welcome to the future generation of festival attendees.

Actual Performers: Lest anyone think that Coachella is not just a chance for festival street-style, there are actual performers who enjoy the festival just as much as the rest of us during their downtime. Seeing musicians in their natural habitat is probably the highlight of Coachella; to wit, who can forgot Rihanna rolling a blunt on her body guard's head during a past festival?
