One of the big winners of Monday night’s Scottish Fashion Awards held in Glasgow (and hosted by British fashion icon Alexa Chung) was Glasgow-born, London-based designer Christopher Kane. Taking home the prized Scottish Fashion Designer of the Year award, Kane had some solid competition this year, going against creatives like Jonathan Saunders, Holly Fulton and Louise Gray.

There’s a good chance you’ve heard Kane’s name before, especially since we were raving over his rainbow-colored 2012 Resort Collection as far back as last year. You might have even seen his name before in your favorite local shop — his reach has certainly been growing this season. That said, he’s not exactly one of the most headline-breaking designers on the block right now, nor one of the most active on Facebook and Twitter (unlike say Henry Holland or Roberto Cavalli, for example).

After this win, we think he should be getting your attention, so we rounded up 5 interesting facts that make him worthy of extra air time — especially among the American fashion scene. Take a look and let us know if you’re convinced.
