Best Peplum Gown: "Girls" star Allison Williams looked absolutely stunning at the 2012 Primetime Emmy Awards. The actress nailed the popular peplum trend with an emerald-green, floor-length Oscar de la Renta gown. We don't think this look could have gotten any better.

Most Overwhelming Peplum:  Unfortunately, not all celebrities are able to master the peplum trend. The digitally-printed Mary Katrantzou dress Elizabeth Banks wore to the 2012 Met Gala is a prime example of peplum gone bad. Not only did the various prints incorporated into this floor-length dress clash and give us a bit of a headache, but the central split, shoulder cover, and over-sized peplum were just too many details for one garment.

Quirkiest Peplum: Actress Zooey Deschanel is known for her adorably quirky style and personality, and the two-tone Moschino dress she donned at the LA premiere of "Our Idiot Brother" definitely was representative of this. With an over-sized ruffle collar and matching peplum detail at the waist, this look is fun and quintessential Zooey.

Most Revealing Peplum:  At the 2012 MTV Movie Awards, actress Julianne Hough combined two trends into one look in a black Sally LaPointe peplum dress with a large cut-out detail revealing her toned stomach. While we love the peplum detailing on this mini dress, we think it might be a bit too much when paired with the highly visible cut-out, and Hough would have been better off in a dress that featured one trend or the other.

While the peplum trend that was so prominent on Spring 2012 runways may not be exactly new, it seems like it’s finally infiltrating Hollywood. That figure-flattering, ruffled piece of fabric you’ve seen attached to the waist of dresses, shirts and skirts is all the rage among top celebrities.

Peplum has been embraced by all sorts of stars from style-setter and “Gossip Girl” actress Blake Lively to reality TV star Kim Kardashian. Whether they’re headed to a red carpet event or a high-profile fete, style-conscious celebrities are turning to peplum garments to create a winning look. Of course, not everyone pulls it off.
