If anyone has had a style transformation over the years, it's Victoria Beckham. Over the past two decades, the artist formerly known as Posh has gone from a '90s twenty-something pop star to a put-together businesswoman and mother of four, and we've followed her every step of the way. On the occasion of her 40th birthday, here are 12 of Victoria's most standout looks, from 1997 to today.

1997
In 1997, Victoria Beckham (then Adams) was known only as one fifth of English pop group and national treasure Spice Girls. Posh wore brown lip liner and gloss to their meeting with the Prince of Wales, Prince Harry, and Nelson Mandela in South Africa.

2000
Victoria rocked crazy volume, caramel highlights, and a heavy hit of bronzer to the Elle Style Awards.

A sign of crops to come: Victoria wore her hair short and asymmetrical to the launch of her first book. She complemented the look with arched brows and plenty of highlighter.

2004
Victoria's 2004 fashion week look, with long, shiny extensions and caramel lip gloss, is a far cry from her more polished looks we see today.

2005
The year of the frosted highlights! Victoria showed off her love of both two-toned hair color and lip liner.

2006
Victoria chopped her hair into an angled bob, but the blonde streaks remained in tact. Her brows looked fuller and more defined than years past, and she introduced rosy blush into her beauty routine.

Victoria befriended bleach this year, sporting long, angled bangs and a slight undercut on her chin-length bob.

2008
Arguably, the birth of "Fashion Victoria" begins right here at New York Fashion Week, when she showed off the long bob that launched a thousand imitators.

2009
The next year, Victoria debuted a cool, edgy pixie that showcased her amazing cheekbones.

2012
Looking a lot more like the Victoria we know today, the former pop star launched her first collection at Harvey Nichols.

2013
Natural-looking highlights and long layers around the face soften Victoria's sharp features—and her signature shades make her not quite so recognizable on the NYC streets.

2014
As a wife, mom, and fashion designer, Victoria now keeps a decidedly lower profile than her Posh days, and she sports a look to match: Her long, dark hair is pretty and down to earth, and she wears a lot less foundation than in years past. Dare we say, at 40, Victoria looks younger than ever?
